Advisors: Prof. Alessandro De Magistris, advisor (Politecnico di Milano), \u00c0kos Morav\u00e1nszky, co-advisor (eth Z\u00fcrich), Michele Caja, co-advisor (Politecnico di Milano)., which will be the subject of a monograph to be published in 2024 by Leuven University Press.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This research was started with the aim of filling a gap in the literature. The events that took place in Slovenian architecture between the 1970s and 1980s, with the ideological crisis of the school of Edvard Ravnikar, the so-called \u201cSchool of Ljubljana\u201d, and the subsequent emergence of theories related to postmodernism, have so far not been deeply investigated, even in the Slovenian literature.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In many respects, this doctoral research has been a challenging task: in addition to linguistic issues, with the need to learn Slovenian and Serbo-Croatian and overcome a great amount of scepticism, I had to understand the system of Yugoslav architecture, focusing on the particularities of the Slovenian case and identifying the sources useful to grasp its complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_0_5_ER_Hotel-Creina-in-Kranj-1024x715.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_0_5_ER_Hotel-Creina-in-Kranj-1024x715.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_0_5_ER_Hotel-Creina-in-Kranj-600x419.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_0_5_ER_Hotel-Creina-in-Kranj.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Edvard Ravnikar, Hotel Creina in Kranj, 1968\/70, photo by Raimondo Mercadante, January 2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In historiography, however, a look from the outside has often been illuminating: one can just think of Anthony Blunt\u2019s studies on French architecture, or on the Roman or Sicilian Baroque, where unprecedented links with European architecture were revealed, or the importance of Manfredo Tafuri\u2019s research on German theory and criticism from the early decades of the twentieth century, when long-neglected authors were first translated at the Istituto di analisi critica e storica in Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is even more valid for the history of Slovenian architecture, where different actors have contributed their own reading of events, often pursuing personal primacy, and where a strong localism divides Ljubljana and central Slovenia from the eastern region headed by Maribor, whose architecture has frequently been underestimated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_6_1_Sezana-cemetery-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_6_1_Sezana-cemetery-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_6_1_Sezana-cemetery-506x900.jpg 506w, https:\/\/www.dashboard.piranesi.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2_6_1_Sezana-cemetery-scaled.jpg 1439w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Vojteh Ravnikar, Mladen Mar\u010dina, Irena Lozi\u0107, Peter Male\u017ei\u010d, renovation of the Se\u017eana cemetery, 1983, view from the inside, photo by Raimondo Mercadante, January 2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In his acceptance speech given at the award ceremony for the Ple\u010dnik Prize for 1974, Marco Pozzetto, the historian who first made international readers acquainted with Max Fabiani and Jo\u017ee Ple\u010dnik, observed how Slovenian architecture was surprising for the originality of its historical development, despite pressures from the West and the Balkans: the \u201cmiracle\u201d of Slovenian architectural culture was the ability of a national community so small in terms of geography and demographics to express its own voice.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Marco Pozzetto, \u201cNagrade Ple\u010dnikova\u201d, <em>Arhitektov bilten<\/em> \u0161t. 23, 1975, p. 19<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article is a brief presentation of a PhD thesis \u201cArchitecture as architecture.
